We were so thankful that Dave Chng has decided to take over from his dad - Senior Chng in running the Hong Lim Building Contractor business.
In 1998, we were recommended by a colleague (they had their 1st home in Toh Guan done by Hong Lim Building Contractor) to Senior Chng for renovation work to our 1st home at Woodlands Crescent.
Hong Lim Building Contractor consistently have a pool of specialist contractors whom are competent, experienced, responsiveness & committed to their excellent workmanship. Senior Chng is friendly, experienced, honest, and very responsive when we interact with him on our ideas, thus for our next home at Everton Park (2004), we again engaged Hong Lim Building Contractor's service.
We were clueless as to which contractor should we engage for our new home when we collected our keys in Sep 2023. We could only think of Mr Chng (Snr) but wondered if he is still running his business. Bingo! We found Hong Lim Building Contractor mailer in our folder & contacted Dave Chng & he confirmed that he has taken over the business now.

Dave was very helpful in helping us realise our ideas for our home, giving us tips in designing our cabinets and choosing the right tiles and materials for our living habits. He was very responsive to our requirements and feedback, whether it was in the early stages or while construction was ongoing.

I was introduced to Hong Lim Building Contractor for my first home by a reputable architect. The project was pretty extensive due to the condition and layout of the place. We pretty much had to tear down and reconfigure the space.
The founders, Mr Chng Yong Huat and Dave Chng, were personally supervising the project and there was not one single time where they did not visit the site each time there was a decision to be made or ideas to be discussed. I was particularly impressed by how patient and detailed they are, in shortlisting options for me; be it tiles or the colours of furniture fittings, including also things that you would not have thought of for your first renovation. No complaints, I pretty much left everything to the company and his team to manage and
I value their inputs and suggestions as well. The project duration was four months due to the pandemic and because of how trustworthy the team is, I did not feel the need to micro-manage nor visit often. Honestly speaking, after 3 terrible experiences in 3 different contractors. I was really scared of finding the wrong one, because after completion of renovation, most of the contractors will ignore and hack care to solve for those minis minus problems.
Both Mr Chng & his son Mr Dave, the first impression to me are very humble not like other contractors. They are very patient and understandable. Mr Dave knows we have budget and finance issue during the completion of flat in renovation. He always tried to work within our budget and not even keep chasing me for the renovation deposit, they give me time which unlike other contractor will hack care your finance problem. We are so much appreciated.
Mr. Chng although he is old but he is very experience and humble. He always provides a lot precious advice such as what tile is good tile not slippery and also which tile is the latest model and what to do and what not to do, help us to save cost. While his son, Mr. Dave is a very well organize, responsible, effective and response no matter how busy he is to solve our problem. To my surprise, even he is a boss but he was not bossy, a lot of minor work, he even personally hands on to do, which I admire him. He is a very reliable and dependable contractor.
Most of the workers are super experience and professional. Now I can agree what my agent have told me this word “他们父子俩办事你可以放100个心”. We appreciated their work quality and integrity.

I was recommended to Dave Chng by an ex work colleague who had also used Hong Lim Interior Design for the renovations to her own apartment. I didn’t know any other contractors but I trusted by ex- colleague’s judgment.
My apartment had been rented out for the past 7 years while my family and I were in London, and it needed a serious overhaul and refresh. I met Dave once prior to the circuit breaker and discussed my ideas with him. My 3-bedroom apartment is not very big so I was very clear that the priority was to create storage space. I also wanted a modern minimalist interior at the same time.
Dave was very patient with me and we worked through many revisions of the plan. Before we could finalize the plan, I had to return to London to pack up my things and arrange them to be shipped back to Singapore, so we had to continue our planning thorough WhatsApp, emails and phone calls. Whilst I was in London, we finalized the plans and by this time the project had grown in scope a fair bit, the work now involved, redesigning the master bed room, and bathroom to create a dressing corner for my wife and a new shower area, extending the 2 remaining bedrooms, redesigning the common bathroom, putting in a new kitchen, creating an Italian inspired living room with sleek cabinetry, redesigning the patio area and rebuilding new wardrobes for all the rooms! Work started as soon as it was possible to do so without me actually being in Singapore. It was very stressful for me and my wife to have to decide all the design elements, from the type and colours of the tiles, wood veneers, wall colours, lighting etc. etc. only through electronic means, but looking back, I don’t’ think it would have worked without Dave’s patience with me and his good advice (which I am glad I followed (mostly!)).
Dave was thoroughly professional and attentive to all my detailed questions. He was also sensitive to costs as I had to told him from the start that I was working to a strict budget! Dave has excellent sense of dedication to his work and is so personally involved in the work. Until now, he comes personally (with his workmen) to fix all the little kinks, which you would expect after the main work is done. I am very pleased with the end result and we are all now enjoying our “new” home. Many of my neighbors and friends have commented on the design of the living room, and the additional space which he created in the bedrooms.
I have no hesitation to recommend Dave and his company to anyone who needs a decent, professional and patient contractor to do any high-quality renovation or building works.

Since 1994, we have been engaging Hong Lim Building Contractor not just for our own renovations, but our family and friends have engaged them too through our recommendation. Recently (2019), we wanted to give our terrace house a minor facelift. Due to their reliability and their consistent delivery of quality works, we called on them once again. As we needed some interior designer inputs over and above the basic renovation works, the job was assigned to Hong Lim Interior Design (managed by Senior Chng’s son, Dave).
Senior Chng continued to exceptionally provide valuable inputs on the renovation works while Dave oversee not just the interior design aspects but also coordinated the various works involving outsourced partners. I am a repeat client of Hong Lim Building Contractor/ Hong Lim Interior Design. 25 years ago, I engaged them (through my brother’s recommendation) for renovation of my 2nd home, an old private apartment unit. Their Founding Chairman, Mr Chng Yong Huat, personally supervised and managed the revitalization of the unit. Throughout the next 24 years, he never once failed to help us deal with other minor renovation works/repairs. He has a network of trusted, reliable and honest building maintenance craftsmen who has helped me from minor home repairs, improvement including major plumbing work (potentially a major problem for older buildings).
When it came for us to move to our next home, I could find no better professional contractor or company to undertake this project (a small landed home). Mr Chng has over the years passed on his expertise and network of allied professionals to his son Dave Chng. Due to our time limitation, I gave Dave a very short window period where major renovation works (designing new open kitchen, major flooring work both interior and exterior, complete re-wiring and cabling etc) have to be completed. I am still amazed at how he managed to complete the project ahead of our deadline. Through my observations, the reason/s for the timely and successful completion are due to his know how of the industry backed by the rich legacy of experiences passed down by the founding chairman. He listens and does not impose his ideas on us. When things are not appropriate or good for us, he will gently advise and nudge us into making decisions that we can be comfortable with. I found both father and son to be very honest and forthright in their recommendation and advice.
As a new and proud property owners, we were looking at some very major flooring work. However, after their inspection and assessment, their recommendation to preserve and revitalize the parquet flooring of our bedrooms, now on hindsight, looks like the right decision. This has reinforced my trust in their judgment and decision which is based on client’s needs and not about maximizing profits from inflated project costs. Most importantly, the one big reason for choosing Hong Lim again, is Dave’s personal touch and commitment to the project. He is on hand to help us rationalize and choose our materials, help interior designing, drawing up plans, managing the project. This gave us the assurance that things will proceed and complete as planned. We were not disappointed.

Just a word of testimony regarding the renovation experience with Dave and company. He came to our house, a HDB 5 room unit, to assess the renovation needs and requirements. Over 2 visits, they proposed the ideas for the flooring, kitchen, hall, bedrooms, new store, cabinets etc.
Dave has been very patient and provided creative solutions to resolve many of our requests. Overall we find that he has good supervisions over the various trades like carpentry, electrical, aircon, plumbing, tiling. Workmanship is good throughout and rectification for feedback is usually prompt and satisfactorily carried out. Even the after moving in follow up works are well supported.

We had our own concerns originally at the 1st few meet ups like many others we tend to stereotype all contractors to being aggressive, irresponsible and impractical when it comes to home renovation. However, all our concerns were thrown out of the window when our renovation journey started.
Hong Lim were able to meet our aggressive timeline, within budget and more importantly Dave the owner of Hong Lim Interior Design was always available to listen to our concerns.
